A Personal Touch at the RBC Canadian Open Championship

The first day is finished and not surprisingly, Dustin Johnson is at the top of the leaderboard with an eagle on his 18th hole. Many of other notables are in the hunt, however there are many unknowns making their voices heard.

As I previously said, I am hoping for any Canadian to win this year and surprisingly it is an amateur, Jared du Toit, tied for third that is leading the charge for the Red and White! As I peruse the leaderboard, one Canadian name jumped out at me and I exclaimed: “Hey, I know that guy!” Continue reading

2016 RBC Canadian Open Golf Championship

Glen Abbey Entrance

Entrance to the RBC Canadian Open.

Today marks the start of Canada’s national golf championship! This four-day tournament is an exciting event for most Canadian golfers. This year, the Open is, yet again, being hosted by Glen Abbey Golf Club. This 7253 yard course has it challenges and its scoring holes. In 2014, I played Glen Abbey and found it fun, frustrating, beautiful and historical all at the same time. If you want to read more about my

The Canadian Open is deep in history. “RBC and Golf Canada are proud to present this year’s RBC Canadian Open. Throughout its history, the RBC Canadian Open has shaped the face of professional golf in Canada.  Many of golf’s greatest names have claimed the Canadian Open Championship title including Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Greg Norman, Nick Price, Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and Jim Furyk.” (RBC Canadian Open) Continue reading

Bug Spray and Golf

One of the must haves in any golf bag is bug spray. In Canada, especially in the more northern locations, golfing without bug spray is not conducive to a fun round on the links. During various times of the summer, different insects can chase you from the course.

At my home course of Osprey Links Golf Course in Callander, Ontario, different holes on the course have their own species of bugs. So it is important to have some sort of protection from these pesky insects so they do not become a hazard in their own right. But, how do we guard against the various bugs while playing to ensure that they do not affect our golf score? Continue reading

A Grateful Golfer Milestone – 100,000 Views

having fun

It is hard to believe that in such a short time I have already achieved one of my first milestones! When I started the Grateful Golfer Blog just over 4 years ago, I thought that 100,000 views at any time would be awesome! Well, I am thrilled that yesterday I have achieved this milestone.

If I achieve my last milestone of 2500 followers, then I will reevaluate what is next!

I am grateful for all the support I have received along the way and I cannot express how happy I am to achieve one of my milestones. Thanks for reading!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

The Open: Final Thoughts

Jack N and Tom W

From Jack Nicklaus’ Facebook page

Wow! What a final round! Many of the pundits have listed the final round of The Open between Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson as one of the greatest final rounds in any Major. It is always hard to make such a statement, but if you are suggesting such bold thoughts, I am confident that Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods’ final rounds would be contenders for comparison.

Unfortunately, I only saw glimpses of the round, but social media was afire with comments and thoughts. Phil Mickelson shot a -6 and lost by 3 strokes to the winner, Henrik Stenson, who shot a -8. Both were amazing performances and Mickelson can walk with his head held high because he was defeated by a better player in the final round. Reviewing the final round, I look for expert opinions, who I respect, to sum up their thoughts and I found one I can wholeheartedly support!
