Risk Reward on the Golf Course

Golf is all about Risk Reward. During every shot, we weigh the advantages and disadvantages of which club to use, the weather, the lie and the possible outcome. This is an exciting aspect of golf that never gets boring.

On and off the course I like to visualize how to play a golf hole. It helps me overcome the fear of making a tough golf shot by preparing my mind of all possibilities. I have a scenario and was wondering what you think.  Continue reading

Jim and Carm at Roundel Glen Golf Course

2-Person Scramble at Roundel Glen Golf Course; I wrote the foundation for this article yesterday. It was a fantastic day and fun was had by all the players. I was fortunate my friend Carmen Stoddart was able to play. We golf regularly, but this is the first time we played in a golf tournament together.

We were in the middle of the pack for tee times and were paired with two great players. Chester and Mike are both solid sticks and have a history of placing first or second in this fun 2-person scramble. Carm and I were lucky to be paired with these gentlemen because their light-hearted approach to the game made our round very enjoyable.

A Golf Pictures: Do They Make You Think

Do you enjoy looking at pictures of golf holes? I sure do! I enjoy looking at how beautiful the landscape shapes and accentuates the fun and difficult aspects of a golf hole. Additionally, I enjoy looking at pictures to figure out how to play the hole that matches my capabilities.

The Country Club, at Woodbridge, Ontario,

I played this hole at the 31 Veteran’s Day of Golf in June. I enjoy looking at this picture because is beautiful and at the same time extremely challenging! Every once in a while I like to look it over to see if can add to what I believe are aspects of the hole that I might have missed.

Golf Strategy: Par 3 – Pt2

Not to be outdone by his brother, Gary McLaughlin was playing the same round of golf at the Slieve Russell Golf and Country Club, Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan, Ireland. Gary is playing a different Par 3 and as all golfers do, hoped for an elusive hole-in-one!

The thrill of playing a Par 3 is always the same. Every player has the hope and confidence that they will hit that perfect shot that will provide a lifetime of bragging rights! Here is what Gary had to contend with last year:

From the looks of the picture, the hole is about 160 yards (center of the green), no elevation change from the tee to the green. The pin is located in the back right. The wind is blowing straight in his face and looks like it will affect the shot by a half a club.

You are playing well and need a birdie to keep your awesome round going! What do you do?

Let us know where you aim, if you play safe, what type of ball shape you would want, and what club you would use! We all want to know!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

Decide – The Only Off Season Golf Strategy You Need

Decide!

This is the ultimate off-season golf strategy for any golfer. You have heard me mention it before, but now it is time to get the details!

This one little word changes in-action into action!

It empowers all players to get active and do something; anything to help improve their golf game.

Recently, I asked players what they did in the off-season to prepare for the time they hit the links. 50% of the players said that they putt. That was about it. Well, I applaud the fact they do something, I would suggest that it may not be enough to help lower their scores early in the 2016 golf season.

Decide!

This is the most difficult step in using your off-season to your advantage is to make the decision to do something! Deciding to get of the couch and work on your game will be the best decision you ever make to lower your golf scores. Here is what I think:

  • Decide build A Growth Mindset About Golf
  • Decide to become a student of the game
  • Decide to get fit
  • Decide to practice
  • Decide to read about more than mainstream golfing news
  • Decide to decide to improve your game

Well this is it, my fool-proof off-season plan for anyone to improve their golf game! Anyone can do it, anyone, if they decide, can change what they are currently doing to lower their golf scores in 2016!

I have made the decision to do something and I am currently formulating a plan. I hope to share it with you over the next few weeks, but in the meantime, it is your turn to:

Decide!
