We all know that putting comes and goes throughout the golf season. There are times when I could not sink my ball in a hole the size of a garbage can lid 3 feet in front of me. And then there are times, like now, when I seem to sink almost everything from anywhere on the green. I especially like these times.

2019 US Open – Day One
Today’s play at Pebble Beach was a surprise. There were many flash in the pan players and some solid performances. The soft greens was a blessing as most players were able to navigate out of the long rough to leave themselves with very reasonable par putts. With three players tied at minus five, it is still way too early to predict any winner. According to the forecast, the wind is not going to blow all weekend; this news softens the bite of Pebble Beach. I wonder what the USGA is going to do to account for softer conditions and favourable weather?

The ‘stinger’ golf shot is nothing new in golf. If you have played for any length of times, I am confident you have tried to hit this specialty shot. Personally, I think Tiger Woods is the player who popularized it more than any other player and would rate him the best ever at making this shot. I personally do not practice this shot often, but would consider myself a slightly better than average player when attempting a ‘stinger’. How do you think you would fair attempting this shot?

Golf is an emotional game. Regardless of how well you play, you have a sense of something walking off the 18th green. I can tell you that over the years I have felt the entire gambit of emotions, however most of the time I feel grateful and wanting more! There is rarely a day that I walk away frustrated or upset because I played a round of golf. However, this is not the case for everyone and I often wondered why.

Have you ever been playing a round of golf and nothing is going wrong? I mean when you happen to hit an errant shot, it hits a tree or rake and lands in perfect position. I have experienced several rounds like these, but not many of the years. When they do occur, golf is so much fun that I cannot wait to play another 18 holes of golf. While these rounds are few and far between, I have played many rounds where my game was on fire and I was not able to handle the extra pressure of success.
