This morning, I watched a video by Rick Shiels that outlined three common mistakes that are prevalent in amateur golfers. I can honestly say that being a low handicapper does not automatically eliminate these errors, but I think I make them less often. Of the three that Shiels talks about, number one is my biggest challenge. Which one would be yours?

Losing Focus On The Golf Course
Two days ago, I happily made my way to the first tee. I was looking forward to playing and hoping that I could improve on my previous rounds. My round started with losing a tee shot (for awhile) in the long grass. After a 3 minute look, I hit found the little darling playing hid and seek under some mown grass. I hit my second shots (I was playing two balls) to short of the green and that is when things started to go off the rails.

I generally do not fuss about the spring weather because it changes at a moments notice. Recently, we have experienced a great deal of rain and cool weather for this time of year. I know that the warmer weather is coming and that my golf season will be in full swing (pardon the pun) very shortly. For this I am definitely grateful. With the mix of wet weather and life responsibilities, my 2022 golf season is starting out slower than I expected. It is all good, however, and my mood is growing in positivity with the appearance of the sun.

Golf is a game that requires any player to make a decision on when to save strokes by taking strokes. Where we drop the ball out of a penalty, whether to take take an unplayable lie, hitting a provisional or punching the ball out of deep rough all have an impact on our golf score. In some cases we need to accept our medicine to ensure we shoot the lowest score possible. I have learned through the years that taking strokes from time to time actually saves me strokes in the long run.

Watching the 2022 PGA Championship was great entertainment. Of course congratulations are in order for Justin Thomas for his win in a playoff, but that was not my takeaway from the second Major of 2022. What I notice the most was the amazing drives that all the professionals seemed to perform over and over again. Yes, I know that some of the players were wayward, but their consistency was something to emulate. So, I decided to see if I could find a simple video that would improve my driving distance off the tee. And guess what, I found one!
