Learning to play a low hook was something I never thought I would ever have need. Well, as it turns out this specialty shot is one that I use more than any other. Primarily because of the 10th hole at Osprey Links Golf Course. The main reason I need to extricate my ball from trouble with this shot is because I try to cut the corner on the dogleg left par 5 and usually jamb myself on the left side. My options are to hit a short chip to 175 yards or hit a low hook to within 100 yards. Guess which shot I prefer?

Forgetting To Follow The Process
Golf is all about process. I am not sure you subscribe to this view of golf, but no matter how you try to build your game, process has to be at the heart of your efforts. As spring is springing, I routinely work on my game, bet my equipment ready and start focusing on how to play again. This all seems very natural, but each step or task is all part of the bigger process so I am ready to hit my first golf ball of the year!

The position of our golf ball is vital to hitting solid, consistent shots. It is something that I spend (spent) a great deal of time working out to ensure I am getting the most out of every club. Even though I practice this important fundamental of my golf swing, I still have challenges from time to time depending on course conditions, weather, and my swing of the day. This is the easiest part of my pre-shot routine I mess up even though I am cognitive of my error. But alas, I found a video that will help me worry less and focus more on better ball position.

This is an important question that every golfer will struggle with during almost every round of golf. I am not sure what your game is like, but I am certain that during every round I will hit a shot that will result in less than ideal results. It is the nature of being an amateur and I have learned over the years that how I respond to these trying times will have a direct correlation to my golf score. I have discusses this in the past and concluded that my response to adversity is purely mental. With my golf season just around the corner, I thought it was time to focus on mentally preparing for the ups and downs of each round. To that end, I have to reacquaint my thought process where I can play my best golf when I make a poor shot.
Continue readingHow Far Would You Putt From Off the Green?
I have noticed an increase in putting from off the green on the PGA Tour. It might be something I have recently noticed, yet many professionals are using the flat stick more and more when playing from 5 to 10 yards from the green. Mostly, they putt when the pin is short sided to their location and the putter gives them that delicate touch needed to have a chance sinking their shot. This particular shot is not one I use unless my ball is on the fringe; putting from 5 or 10 yards (regardless of where the pin is located) is not something I think about. How about you?
