Well Finally! It Happened!

My home course opened last Friday. My golf season is officially underway! Due to life things, I am not able to head out until tomorrow. I have some coaching duties to finish up and lots of yard work still awaiting my attention. Regardless, once tomorrow hits, I will be in full swing and plan to play 3 or 4 times a week. In those periods, I will be using my hickory sticks. I also plan to track my scores separately between my modern and my vintage clubs. I am not expecting much at the beginning of the season, however this year I plan to play some new tracks just for fun. But that is not all!

<!–more–)

Every year I have great intentions to play different golf courses. This year, I plan to make it happen. I want to play at least 10 different tracks different from my home course. Due to the limited availability of some courses in my area, I will play some courses from the past, but different from the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort. As I have mention in a recent article, I have played the Cambridge Golf Club this year, so now I am down to nine different courses.

Traditionally, I play most of my golf at my home course. This will not change this year, but I want to play other tracks to challenge my game. I find that my game becomes stagnate by playing the same course over and over. Anyway, it will be something I want to achieve this year.

I prepared my golf clubs two weeks ago in hopes that opening day would come sooner. But alas, the weather did not cooperate. With Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort opening, I can scoot out and play a quick nine holes at any time. Being only 10 minutes to the golf course is very convenient. This is the main reason I decided to change home courses two years ago. The extra time is great to have and I am thrilled that the course is open.

As I sit here writing this article, I am visualizing my round of golf tomorrow. It is standard to think about my round before playing, which pays off with lower golf scores. My golf season has started and if you cannot tell, I am excited to hit the links. More to follow on my first round….

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

Managing Expectations During Your First Round Of Golf For The 2023 Season

Golf season is so close that I can feel my anticipation growing. I know that once I start that I will be driven to play as much as possible due to the already shortened season. This feeling of excitement is normal and is nothing new for this time of year. As I rush to the first tee box, I keep in mind what I have learned over the years: it is important to manage my expectations. The rust that needs removing varies, however there are a few know aspects of my game that I am prepared for in order not to be discouraged early in my season. I think these areas are normal and all golfers who had a long winters nap should understand that early season rounds are not indicative of what their season will be link.

When Will The Golf Courses Open?

I am on the hourly watch for my local golf courses to open for the season. As of Monday, 1 May, I will start to get antsy and fret about the lost time on the links. Okay, I realize that this is way up on the ‘drama meter’, but it is time to start playing. I have my clubs out, my bag is read, my shoes are clean and the only thing I am missing is a course to play on. What is a golfer to do?

When Your Golf Score Never Matters

Yesterday my 2021 golf season started anew. After 6 weeks of a delay, we were finally able to hit the links. The course was full all day, but you would never know it by how professionally the staff managed the tee time flow and how players respected the social distancing rules. The day was over cast, warm, and breezy; in other words it was the perfect day to resume golfing. Since yesterday felt like our first day on the links in 2021, I focused on one thing and one thing only: having fun.

My 2021 Golf Season Starts Today!

The day is finally here and I will be teeing it up for the first time in 2021. I have waited, prepared, and dreamed about this day and thought it would never come. But, it is here and at noon EST, I will striping my ball down the middle of the fairway! After watching The Masters yesterday, I am psyched to walk 18 holes with my friends. And as my first round of the year, I have some expectations that will help guide me on my way.
