NO Fear Putting!

Most players reach that putting distance where negative thoughts start to creep in. Depending on your skill and confidence, that distance varies. Personally, my distance is around 50 feet or so, but that changes depending on the speed of the green, the undulations, uphill or downhill, or how I am playing that day. There are many influences, however 50 feet is my standard distance of concern. That, however, is not what most golfers think. Continue reading

First Putting Practice in the Books

Well, yesterday I finished my first of many putting practices for the winter. I decided to start on our rug in the basement because it has many straight lines I can use to help with my alignment. I must say, it was fun to putt, but I did not glean very much from my practice time.

Building a Strong Putting Routine

Since purchasing my putter a few months back, I believe I have subconsciously decided that this will be my focus over the next 5 months. Without question I will continue to train and prepare physically, but I think I need to work on all things putting. Pacing Off Your Putt

If you ever watch a great putter like Steve Stricker, his routine is very methodical. As with other great players, they attempt to recreate the same conditions through out their pre-shot routine to increase their consistency when executing their putt. I am a very strong proponent of this and try to use the same method of putting all the time. Regardless of the length (except tap ins of course), I have a step by step routine of putting. Gimmie Putts, Are they a Thing?

Gimmie putts are a thing. Regardless of who we are playing with, we have told our playing partners to pick up their ball. Sometimes it is a mercy gimmie and sometimes it is for strategy, but gimmies are an unofficial part of golf. Last year, I played over 80 rounds of golf and except for tournaments, I will pick up my ball from time to time when playing. Is this fair, probably not, but it is a reality of modern golf.
