I love playing in Men’s night. It is an opportunity to play some fun golf with absolutely no pressure. Last Wednesday, approximately 45 players(normally closer to 100 during mid-season) teed it up for a straight 4 man scramble. No special rules, nor were there any restrictions on putts or drives. It was a great game and to top things off, our regular crew was back together for the first time in 2018 with the exception of Jimmy D. He was an add on and fit in perfectly with Blair Rick and I. In case you are wondering, Men’s Night is more than just golf and here is why!
As the crescendo of excitement builds, the more discerning golfer is building their choice for the next green jacket. This is a difficult process and depending on your point of view, will include many factors that can be measured and others…..well, not so much. Before I announce my choice as the next Masters Champion, I thought I would share my selection process because it will help you understand how I reached my decision. Continue reading
The Sportspal golf tournament was completed yesterday. A highlight event at Osprey Links Golf Course it pitted 69, 2-person teams in a Best Ball and Scramble format. After the best ball round on the first day, my partner, Blair, and I were flighted into the Championship division. Unfortunately, with a 73 on the first day, it would have taken a miracle to place in the prizes. And to remove any suspense, we did not place high enough to take home any hardware.
Before I talk about our round, I want to congratulate Rylan Young and Ryan Jardine who won the 18th Annual Sportspal 2 Person Challenge shooting 128 over two days (66 Best Ball on Saturday and 62 Scramble on Sunday) to claim the Championship and each take home a Sportspal Canoe. (Osprey Links)
The first of two rounds of the Sportspal golf tournament was completed yesterday. This is a highlight event at Osprey Links Golf Course and it is the first time I have entered. This two-day event pits 69 teams of two in a Best Ball and Scramble format. After the best ball round on the first day, the teams are flighted and assigned a hole for the scramble round going today. The Championship and A Flights will play from the blues while the rest of the field will play from the whites. I have not played in this format of golf tournament in a long time and the first day was very interesting. Continue reading
Last week, I had a stretch of 5 tournaments in 7 days. I played in 2 scrambles, 1 stroke play, 1 match play, and 1 scramble/match play formatted events. They were great fun and I really enjoyed meeting so many new golfers. Golf is a contact sport and I certainly achieved that last week. I do want to add that I have never played in this many competitions in such a short time and hopefully I can do it again in the future. However, I did notice that my game was not as sharp during the scramble events as the match play and stroke events and I think I know why!
