Training for A Great Golf Swing

Over the years, fitness was discussed multiple times at The Grateful Golfer. It is an extremely important part of being a successful golfer, not to mention a healthy lifestyle. Normally, I am an active person, but when the snow starts to fly, it becomes difficult to maintain an active lifestyle.

I am not an expert, nor do have the knowledge to guide anyone who wants to train for a great golf swing. I only know what works for me and what I need to do to be successful on and off the golf course. Do you know what fitness components are important to your golf swing?

I used to think that when winter arrived, all my fitness activities had to occur in a building. As a professed gym-rat in my younger years, this ingrained thinking built the foundation of my rigid thoughts. However, over the past 3 years, I have come to realize that fitness does not have to revolve around the weight room or a treadmill.

This past summer, I moved into the country. We have a small plot of land covered with trees and under brush. We decided that we would like to reclaim some the land and grow flowers, grass and perhaps a garden. Not living in the country before, I quickly came to realize that without the right tools, I expended a great deal of energy toiling around my yard.

Solving my golfing woes by the fire!

Sitting down around my fire on evening, I thought about all the stretching, lifting, turning, hauling, and pushing I did during the day. I think I exerted every muscle in my body that day and as I stiffly shifted positions, it dawned on me: all my chores were similar to going to the gym for a workout. Except, of course, my chores lasted about 6 hours instead of just one at the gym!

As the summer transitions into winter, I can expect to continue my outdoor activities by shoveling snow, snow shoeing, cutting some wood, and carrying pellets to name a few. My outdoor chores are a great substitute for going the gym and it has an added bonus of being enjoyable.

So if you are looking to train for a great golf swing. Maybe it is time to look around your yard and see what is out there. Many of the chores we do are similar to those at the gym (that we researched looking for just the right training program). I am continuing to embrace the cooler weather and look forward to train for a great golf swing by spending more time outdoors.

What do you think, can you train for a great golf swing by working in the great outdoors?

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
