With the rampant speculation about Tiger Woods return to professional golf, I wonder if he is really going to try to make his 4th comeback. After posting a video on Oct 7 of his golf swing, more than 400,000 stopped by to take a look. It is amazing that he still garners that much attention and interest. In the big scheme of things, I understand why, but I just do not get it.
Now, just 3 weeks later, it was announced that he is cleared, with no restrictions, to return to golf. This recent announcement fanned the flames of more speculation and now it seems that the pundits are clambering to pick the exact day of his return. However, Woods has not even indicated that he will return to professional golf, so this is all a hubris exercise in who can guess first and the fastest.
Personally, I do not see what all the hype is about. Don’t get me wrong, I respect Tiger Woods’ ability to play great golf, but he is an aging legend whose time has come. I understand that he was the beacon of light for many amateurs, but unfortunately that light has started to dim. At 41 years young, he is not ready for the Senior Tour and may not be able to compete on the PGA Tour. So what is this great player to do?
Of course, we cannot ignore the fact that one of the greatest golfers of all time may be coming back to professional golf. As a golfer, I am interested in his progress, but will not put any real brain bits to it. If he returns, I will watch and see. I do not see the value of jumping on the bandwagon early and feeling like Charlie Brown does when Lucy repeatedly pulls the football away.
As I have the last 3 times Tiger Woods made a comeback, I wish him all the success in the world. I hope that if he does make it back to playing in the professional ranks, he remains healthy and plays well. However, in the big picture his return does not change how I look at or watch professional golf.
How about your? Are you anxiously awaiting the return of Tiger Woods?
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
