On The Golf Course Do You Have Character?

Do you have character on the golf course or are you a character on the golf course? They are two entirely different things and will make a tremendous difference to your playing partners. Personally, I would prefer to have the former than be the latter. I think it is important to exude an air of gentlemanly confidence that does not annoy the other players in our group.

I can trace my approach back to when I first started playing golf with my Dad. He was very well respected on and off the course. His approach was to be polite to everyone regardless of their playing skills and to ensure he gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. I take his view on how to play seriously and try to emulate his actions all the time. I think this foundation of displaying character has helped me considerably over the years.

On the other hand, with my current group of players (Rick, Blair, Pat, Mike C., Mike T., and Jimmy to name a few) like to see the character in my game as well. We have a great time poking fun and cajoling each other. We know when to be serious and to back off, but most of the time we just have fun and laugh a great deal.

After thinking about it, I guess both are valuable. It is important to know which character should show up when.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
