Nothing Stops Golf

With Remembrance Day recently past, it is important for us to remember to give thanks for the sacrifice of the many. Because fo them, we are able to enjoy our time on the links in complete safety with confidence that our courses are safe and secure. Unfortunately, for those playing golf in England during WWII, there were more hazards on the links than just sand traps. To protect the players, a list of Wartime Golf Rules were created and I thought it needed to be shared.

I find it interesting that during the desperate times of WWII, people still found time to for some leisure. I am not surprised that golf was on the list of activities, yet some of the rules are definitely worth a second look. For me, numbers 2 and 5 definitely caught my attention. Not sure I would be playing golf during those dangerous times, but it seems that nothing can stop golfers from enjoying the game they love.

What do you think of the Wartime Rules? Would you playing during those trying conditions?

I am a grateful golf! See you on the links!

  1. This set of local rules takes fanatic golfer to a new level. Like you, rules 2 and 5, I don’t think continuing the game would be my first priority.

For those that get upset by the smallest noise or movement, golfing during those times was probably not advisable. I don’t think that being too anal on the rules would also be rather foolish.

As for would I be playing in those conditions, I am not so sure.

  2. I think a bomb going off behind me in the middle of my swing shouldn’t cost me a stroke. 🤔

Well, I guess I’m going all in on stats. I just ordered a Shot Scope v3 watch and club sensor combo. So from whenever it gets here forward I can track every shot with GPS accuracy. A step I should have taken years ago maybe. I mean I am the database guy. Numbers are my bag. lol So we’ll see if it leads me anywhere good. At the very least it can’t hurt to have GPS confirmation on distances to the pin and hazards on every swing from now on.

      • I showed these rules to the guys while we were playing our skins round tonight and we’ve decided to add them to the local rules. Except no penalty on number 7. We’re treating that like the electrical wires crossing our course on three holes. A free, but required mulli. lol

So I guess now we’re prepared if we ever need a ruling.😂
