It is the time of year where my golf swing starts to show signs of wear and tear. I have played a fair bit this year and come September, I find my longing to rush to the course waning. This is nothing new because my other life interests (coaching basketball at the local high school and preparing our yard for winter) start to take a leading role in how I spend my time. Knowing this, I must stay focused as I still have two events left before putting the clubs away for the season. One is tomorrow and the other in two weeks, thus I need to keep my game sharp and ensure my swing is ready for competition.
Tomorrow I am playing in a two person senior scramble with a local player. We have not played together in yet and it will be fun to hit the links with Len. Len is a long ball, smooth hitting player who brings a great deal to the team. I have a feeling he will add a new dimension to our team and I am looking forward to playing tomorrow. My roll will be to ensure I am in play all the time, focus on my short game and to putt well. It might seem like a tall order, but I have played a bit lately and focused on these areas. Knowing I do not have to hit the ball long helps with my control off the tee.
The fun part about tomorrow’s round will be playing golf with someone new. We did not have time to play prior to the event tomorrow, but I am confident it is going to be fine. Len is a great guy (we have met a few times) and I think our playing styles will compliment each other very well. I am excited to hit the links at my old haunt of Osprey Links Golf Course. It is going to be fun!
My second event, in two weeks, is the 2024 Ontario Open Hickory Golf Championship. I will be my last rounds of golf with the hickory sticks and I am hoping I play well. I have used my hickories a fair bit this year and I am confident I can play well with them. This two day event is going to be great fun and I am looking forward seeing old friends and playing with 100 year old golf clubs.
So, back to the root of the theme for today’s article: how do find my golf swing late in the golf season. That actually is very easy: continue to play lots of golf. Yup, I have practiced, played and experienced some great golf over the summer, so not it is time to keep up the momentum. The temperatures here are changing and my time for playing in warm weather is limited, but the opportunities are still abound. So, to find my swing I need to keep playing golf for the next three weeks. That is the fun part about playing fall golf. Every round is a bonus. It also allows my time to be grateful for the time I can spend playing golf!
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
Had to play on a bum trail leg today. Really messed with my timing on full swings. But knowing distances to club up helped keep too big a number away.
Finished the round getting up and down from 93 yards with a 9 iron pitch shot to 4 feet past the hole. A shot I’ve hit hundreds of times on the range.
If the leg had been fine I’d have hit my gap wedge. I’ve hit that shot even more times with it. It’s not quite a full swing with it but it would have needed me to use my legs more. And by then I wasn’t liking that idea at all.
Guess I’m going on a bit of a break from golf. At least until my Sunday tee time. Lol

Kevin,
Injuries are never fun. Letting it heal is likely a very smart thing. Great up and down from 93 yards.
Cheers Jim
