Chipping Tips On Stance

Lee Trevino is considered one of the greatest players of all time. Considered one of the top 25 players of all time, his magic around the green is infamous. That is why I am using his tips in my article today on how to stand and swing your clubs when making a shot around the green. Interestingly, Trevino explains something that is counter intuitive to amateurs starting out for the first time. His explanation demonstrates why many golfers pull the ball when chipping – something I had to fix several times over my golfing journey.

Improving our short game is something I always focus my efforts when practicing. Especially in the spring after a long winters nap (which is just starting 😭) when the rust on my golf game is inches thick. It seems I forget many things and have to relearn things like stance, grip, aiming, tempo…..well, just about everything actually. Next spring I will start with Trevino’s tips on stance and see if that helps speed up my revitalization of my short game.

I enjoyed Trevino’s explanation about the clubhead path and how it relates to our stance. I have flare my feet and use an open stance most of the time. Sometimes I fail at the open stance, but that is all part of being an amateur. Additionally, I sometimes stand with my feet too far apart. As you can see, there are many moving parts to chipping properly around the green.

Golfing is fun. Regardless of the level of your skill development, there is always something new to learn. Narrowing our stance and opening our feet is a great place to start when improving our short game. Trevino made history with this technique, so I am thinking it is worth a try.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
