I went to my old stomping grounds yesterday to sharpen up my game at their updated practice facility. As a fan of Osprey Links Golf Course, it is great to see that they invested in a new training facility. It is definitely great new and improvement from when I played as a member 5 years ago and will be the place where my friend Blair and I meet for coffee to improve our golf game. I am happy to see Osprey Links is carved out this training area as it adds to the appeal and golfing experience for everyone!
I have always like Osprey Links. Each nine holes offers a different challenge with a links style front and tight wooded fairways on the back. The greens are a good size and offer a fun challenge when putting. I was a member at Osprey links for about 15 years on and off and miss playing there on a regular basis. Regardless, back to the new practice facility.
Considering the lack of land available to Osprey Links, I think they created a great practice area that is easily maintained (at least to the amateurs eye). It is large enough to accommodate about 20 players without everyone bumping into each other. There are 10 hitting mats and a large putting/chipping green. I realize I am using the words mats to describe the practice area and that is because the entire facility is covered with outdoor playing mats. It works very well and provides a great hitting sensation as I found out yesterday.

As you can see, there are various lengths of faux grass to hit from when practicing. I found this feature very beneficial when practicing my iron play. It is important to place my ball in challenging lies when working on my short game because I rarely receive a perfect lie when playing a normal round.

The chipping / putting green is also a great addition to the golf course. There is still another chipping/putting green constructed of real grass over by the clubhouse which offers a great opportunity to learn the feel of the speed of the greens before playing. However, for bulk practicing this area created by Osprey Links definitely fits the bill.
For years, the greatest drawback about Osprey Links was the lack of practice area. Well, that issue is resolved and now everyone can receive the full golfing experience from playing at this fun golf course.
As always, the staff are professional and courteous. Jeff has a great team and if you are looking for somewhere to play this weekend, then I recommend giving Osprey Links a call. I do not think you will be disappointed.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
Jim, the faux surfaces seems like an excellent use of the property and definitely holds down maintenance costs. Do you know how well it drains? Also can you putt on that practice green as shown or is it designed for just receiving short game shots?
Thanks,
Brian

Brian,
The practice area has excellent drainage. And we can definitely putt on the practice green. Chipping is great fun as well.
Cheers Jim

I use my launch monitor in that practice area. Works great and I can dial in my carry distances.
