Quick Tips To Lower Your Golf Score

There is a plethora of golf tips out there that will help any player lower their golf score. Depending on your skill level, these tips can be helpful or not so much. Additionally, it is a challenge to find any tips that span the spectrum of abilities so that the information provided can help you progress your game. Well, today I found a video that does just that! I think there will be something for everyone and I will explain why.

The first tip about lag putting is very critical. The discussion of speed versus line is ongoing, however in this case speed will determine if your putt is considered good or not. Using the 10% rule for the distance left after a long putt is a good rule of thumb for beginner and novice players. I believe (in my case especially) that after a lag putt from any distance that I should be within three feet. I am considered a better than average player (most of the time 😉 ) so my expectations are considerably higher than the average player. Regardless, knowing how to judge your distances while putting is critical.

The second tip is designed for more advance players. Understanding bounce and how it works in relation to your wedges is important. I have tried many different degrees of bounce and have settled on 8°. This degree of bounce is universal and will helps me manage all kinds of different lies. Additionally, I only have three wedges and so I decided to keep the bounce consistent. It works for my game and I might for yours.

The third tip deals with set up. This information transcends all levels of experience. I agree with how the club is an extension of the lead arm and yet it is a challenge to keep this setup knowledge at the forefront of all my golf swings. How we set up our golf shot is as important as making the full swing. This skill will take some practice at the range and a process to develop the visual cues to ensure you club is set up properly. My pre-shot routine helps with this skill.

Lastly, where we set up our feet in order to properly aim down the fairway. I agree that most amateurs do not aim properly. They set up too far right and as a result have a mixed bag of where there ball lands. This is a skill I work on all the time and I do use alignment sticks (even in my garage during winter training) and think they are the simplest and most inexpensive golf training aide.

Improving our golf game takes many forms. The video in today’s post helps address many playing levels and offers some great advice. Additionally, I link to previous articles I wrote the exact topics that I think you might find useful. Regardless, lowering our golf score does take time and effort. I hope the information provide today does just that for your game.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
