Many of us struggle to consistently hit solid iron shots. It is not due to lack of effort, but more how we set up and ‘adjust’ our positioning in order to make that great iron shot. The challenge that most amateurs have is that we are self-defeating because our set up has put us behind the eight ball from the start. I am not suggesting that we are all making tons of mistakes all the time because that would be crazy talk. What I am suggesting is that minor tweaks to our set up may allow us to reach the promise land of solid, well-aimed, iron shots that ultimately lead to lower golf scores.
The following video from US Golf TV offers some simple, easy to adopt suggestions to hitting solid golf shots. In my case, I paid close attention to the clubface position of the video. This is a challenge I have with my modern and hickory clubs from time to time. See of any of the solutions will work for your game:
There are many different ways to fix our golf swing. I like the fact that the video focused on set up of our swing as it is the root of many challenges. Additionally, the positioning of the handle (to be fair, I knew about this one) is an important point for many amateurs. Many times I have watched players set up into a neutral just to mess it up my press the handle of their club too far forward.
Golf is a fun and frustrating game all at the same time. We might be able to lessen the frustration and increase the fun by focusing a bit on our set up of our iron shots. Next time you are at the range, try setting up in a neutral position and use it through your entire swing. Who knows, this might be the fix you are looking for to improve your golf game.
