A few days ago, Blair and I were invited to play in a fun scramble at Pine Grove Golf Course in Sudbury, Ontario. Bruce, my brother in law, extended the invitation to play in the Mine Mill Local 598 Unifor Retirees Tournament which we could not refuse. Bruce also invited Jack to play, thus rounding out our 4-man team. I have to say that it was one of the more enjoyable rounds of golf I have played in some time. I hope Bruce includes us again next year because Blair and I are ready for another shot at Pine Grove.

Flipping or Casting My Irons
Golf is a poetic game that requires fluid movement to hit the perfect golf ball. To see the perfect ball flight, hear solid contact, or feel the effortless body movements is something that you will know it when you hear, see, or feel it. I understand this concept, however lately my irons (all of them) are not as ‘perfect’ as I want and as a result I am hitting the ball shorter and to the left on approach shots. It is a bit frustrating, however I understand my shortcomings and now it is time for fix this new challenge.

When and where is the tipping point in our golf game? You know, that point where all our hard work pays off and we can move on to improving / acquiring a different skill. It is like walking up stairs and each step is a new skill. Our game plateaus for a time until we decide to focus our improvement on a different skill. I guess this is true for all learned skills, but more prevalent in golf.

Playing golf with friends is always fun. Playing golf with new friends is something I thoroughly enjoy and yesterday I had a chance to expand my circle of grateful golfers. My wife is from a small town in Ontario and recently reconnected with an old friend, Michele. Little did I know I would be the beneficiary of this re-connection as I was invited to golf with her husband Jacques. He brought his brother Gilles and an old mutual friend Glen who I knew from years ago. We decided to meet at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort for a quick round and to take the chance to get to know each other.
