Breaking 80 Using Golf Stats

Most golfers who find their handicap dropping will collect data to monitor their play. This data is converted into stats which they can use to focus on specific areas of their game. Kevin, a regular at The Grateful Golfer, has mentioned many times over the years that collecting and analyzing stats is more than just numbers on a page. I agree wholeheartedly. When I worked I, like Kevin, use stats off the course to determine courses of action or at least recommend a way forward. This analytical process has helped my golf game over the years because I learned to gather and apply fact based results to lower my score. This process of stat analysis is one I used to consistently break 80 and you can as well.

Golfing For The Fun Of The Game

Mentally, golf can either bring you joy or despair. How we approach our round will determine if we are feel before, during and after the round. Personally, I always try to have fun win a mix of self-driven competitiveness. It is a balance I developed over the years and fortunately the group I play in helps me keep that balance. I believe that if we are not having fun, then what is the point of play.

Learning A Golf Lesson From A Poor Round

One of my many experiences during my 37+ years in the Canadian Military was that no opportunity should be wasted to learn a lesson. Especially during an exercise when multiple things go wrong. One boss used to say that mistakes during an exercise are the perfect opportunity to improve. I carry this mindset into my daily life and definitely use it today whenever I hit the links.

Do You Have A Favourite Number For Your Golf Ball?

Of course we all mark our golf ball so we can easily identify it when playing. We by our golf balls with the numbers 1 to 4….most of the time. I recently purchase a dozen golf balls with 5 to 8 for something different. During my friendly rounds, I do not care which number is on my golf ball. I ensure my ball has my special mark, but that is about it. However, when it comes to competitions, that is something completely different.

Hitting Into The Sun

Every golf has hit their ball into the sun, thus making it extremely difficult to watch your ball. When playing with partners, they make a strong effort to see your ball, however, if they do use the proper technique all is for not. I have tried so many different techniques that I was frustrated to point of giving up. I thought, I cannot see the ball anyway, so lets just play a game of poker and hope the best. Of course, this did not go over well with my playing partners, so I had to find a better way to track the ball in the sun. And I did!
