I had a hard time figuring out a title for this blog because I think that greens in regulation are the most important stat. The reason for my trepidation is because of my round yesterday. I played a quick 18 holes, actually I played nine holes but played two separate balls, and I hit nine greens in regulation and walked away with zero birdies. Normally, I would be happy with 50% GIR for a round, but not yesterday.

Golf is a simple game that is extremely difficult to play. Seems like a contradiction in thoughts, but if we delve into the basics, this statement is profoundly correct. Many golfers, including myself, have spent hours on the range and course trying to perfect our swing with the intent of consistently shooting low scores. The results are relative, yet there is on common thread in every golfers game that universally detracts from our main goal. We routinely try golf shots that do not work for our game. How do I know this, well 45 years of whacking a little white ball around the links has taught me the best approach to my golf game is to routinely hit the shots that work. On Tuesday and Wednesday last, I was invited to join an fantastic group of golfers who have connections to my new home town of Mattawa, Ontario, Canada. I met the organizer, Paul, a year before I moved to Mattawa and he invited me to join this annual trip to Pembroke, Ontario. This year 64 friends congregated at the Oaks of Cobden Golf Course and Pembroke Golf Course to share stories, remember the good ole days, have a few libations, and play golf. As this was my first year, I marveled at the camaraderie that in some cases goes back 60 years! It was a fantastic way to start off my golf season and I am already looking forward to next year’s event!
