And So It Begins: The Ryder Cup 2023

The stage is set for the 2023 Ryder Cup. It will be played from Sept. 25-Oct. 1, 2023 at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, Rome, Italy. The first order of business was to slect the Captains to lead the way. I think that they are the right leaders for next year’s event.

I like these selections because of they calm, competitive approach to playing golf. It will be interesting to watch the players scramble to make their respective Ryder Cup Teams. Let the games begin!

What?! Another Great Putt!

If you ever wondered where you should focus you practice time…..well, Cameron Smith has shown the golfing world the right course of action. If you track your putting and you are in the mid or higher 30s for the number of putts during a round, then maybe Smith has something to say. After his performance during this years Players, putting is the greatest equalizer in golf!

Putting is the great equalizer or in the case of The Players, the dominant stroke. I was amazed by how Smith made clutch putt after clutch putt. His performance actually makes me want to practice my putting more than I already do!

If we learned nothing else, putting is so important….nope, critical to low golf scores. I knew how important it was to my past success, however Cameron Smith set a new standard for all golfers to aspire. So, this year, my practice will incorporate more time on the putting green. How about you?

Shooting 59 In A Golf Tournament

A few years back, I shot a 59 in a golf tournament on the new course I joined for 2022. It was a great round and I never missed a shot that I can remember. Not all my shots were perfect, but I did not shoot any duds. It was amazing how quickly the score dropped with two eagles on the card. The score was not really all that surprising when I one putted 11 of 18 holes and never recorded a bogey or higher. It was a magical round and I hope to grain some of that magic this year as golf season is just around the corner.

What I Learned From 2022 Players Championship

Although The Players Championship is not a Major in golf, it sure can create the excitement and heartbreak of one. As I watched the play over the weekend, I realized that professional golfers have the same challenges as amateurs when challenging conditions are present. And since last Thursday, the weather created the environment where doubles, triples and quads were not a surprise. Having said this, I did learn three things that make me feel much better about my game.

Steady, Consistent Golf Is Boring…..Right?

Golf is a sport that provides a tremendous opportunity to make amazing shots. You know the ones that go under a branch, over a tree, lands just shot of the green and rolls up to a tap in birdie or par! I am fairly confident that I have hit a few shots like that over the years, but they are few and far between. During each round, I hit a few great shots, a few poor shots (sometimes more than I would like 😉 ), and many consistent shots in play. I am sometimes accused of playing boring, down the middle golf that produces nothing spectacular, nor do I find myself in a tremendous amount of trouble. Fortunately for me, this type of golf is fun and very exciting sometimes.
