My first round of golf for 2021 is in the books. On Monday past, Blair, Rick, Fernando and I teed up for the first of many rounds to come. We had three seasons of golf in one round starting with a cool fall breezy conditions, then warm sunny summer conditions, and finally cool spring rainy weather. It is a good thing I was prepared for all three. Not to worry, the weather was a non-factor for me because I was grateful to be golfing. For the most part, my round was great fun and I met most of my expectations.

Care and maintenance of a golf course is an easy thing, right? Well, think about your yard and the amount of work (or not) you perform to keep it looking beautiful. Now, multiply those tasks by 1000%, then have all your neighbours come over everyday and critic your work. If you can envision this, then you are just dealing with the tip of the iceberg that golf superintendents deal with on a daily basis. Their love of their job has to outweigh the other “stuff they have to deal with” that most most golfers never see and should never see. A good superintendent is worth their weight in gold, great superintendents are priceless!

Fall golf does have a tendency to reek havoc on my golf game. As I generally play 4 times a week with no more than a two day layoff between games, my golf game stays pretty sharp most of the time. However, due to the weather challenges and life commitments, I can go 4 or 5 days without swinging a club. I do have my practice area at my house, but generally I am busy or the weather does not cooperate to make it of any use. Alas, when I have a prolong break, I notice rust starting to form.
