The Mattawa/Osprey Home and Away Match

A couple of days ago I was invited by my friend Mark to play in the first annual Mattawa/Osprey Home and Away Match. It was a straight forward event where two teams of 12 play a two person scramble (six matches) where each twosome has a chance to win two points; One point for the front and one point for the back nine. After the first leg of the event at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort, Mattawa holds a two point lead over my team of Osprey Links. Since it is the first year, the idea was to keep thinks simple and full of fun!

On To The Semi Finals Of The Osprey Links Stroke Match Play Competition

From the title of the article, I guess you figured out that I won my match yesterday. After playing 18 holes with hickory sticks, I played another 18 holes against Scott. Steve and Dan, Scott’s friends (and now my friends) joined us to round out our group. These young players have strong developing games in addition to being great company during our round. There were some great shots, some not so great shots, and some forgettable shots. However, the company was fantastic, the weather was gorgeous and the course was in fantastic condition. Playing Golf With Friends!

Is there anything better than playing golf with friends; especially friends that we do not see often. Two days ago, I had the opportunity to reconnect with Andre and Serge. I met Andre through Serge a few years back and since then we have stayed connected through our golfing passion. Serge is a great friend from work and travels to North Bay from time to time, but this is the first time since COVID started that we had a chance to play. To round off out group, Blair joined us and he was a perfect fit to round out our foursome. Once we hit the first tee, Andre suggested that we play a game; the gauntlet was thrown; and Blair and I happily agreed!

Second Leg Of My Match Play Event Is In The Books

Our match was schedule for Oh Dark Thirty. Actually, we teed off at 0645 hrs and the morning was gorgeous. The temperature was perfect, there was lots of dew (which never bothers me), and there was no wind. I could not have asked for a better day to play my second match. I was matched against Craig Wallace and unfortunately for him he was matched up against a bulldozer that would not stop. It was my best round of the year and my front nine crushed Craig because I could not miss and he had a tough day.

First Round Match Play Adventures

The Osprey Links Golf Course Stroke and Net Match Play Championships are well under way and the scores are starting to roll in. I have played two matches myself and had a great time during both rounds. I played one match on each the stroke and net side, but with different results. The score was secondary as I played golf with two great guys and I hope I have the opportunity to play another round with them this year.
