How much thought do you put into buying a new golf shirt. If you are like most people, whichever shirt is on sale is good enough. Unfortunately, this method of buying active wear generally leads to disappointment and a closet full of unworn golf shirts.
When selecting a golf shirt I look for five specific qualities: style, comfort, freedom of movement, ease of care and of course value. These qualities are important because if I am going to spend money on active wear, it must be able to stand up to the rigors of my life on and off the course.
Taking more time to invest in quality golf apparel could enhance your game. Recently, I was introduced to a black Awning Stripe Performance Polo by Carnoustie and I can say I am not disappointed. The “ELEGANT STYLE, TIMELESS APPEAL” of this shirt, as touted by the company, is exactly that: timeless and elegant. From what I have experienced so far, Carnoustie easily hits the mark.
I wore my new shirt on four different occasions. Once for an entire day, once at the range and twice on the course. During each outing, the temperature was between 20 – 25 degrees Celsius and the sun was shining.
Style is a personal thing, however I was complimented several times on the look and quality of my shirt. As well, my new shirt is easy to care for and fits my wash and wear clothing needs. With some spandex in the fabric it is recommended that this shirt be tumbled dry and my wife tells me that this is normal for quality clothes.
When playing, I walk briskly and can work up a bit of a sweat, however, my Carnoustie shirt easily wicked away the moisture to keep me dry and comfortable. Additionally, during each swing the fabric did not stick or bunch around my shoulders (which is normally the case with poor quality or ill-fitting golf shirts); nor did it restrict any movement of my golf swing. Overall, I found my new golf shirt extremely comfortable and exceeding all my expectations.
The last aspect of my specific needs in a golf shirt is value. The Carnoustie Performance Polo is a quality polo and I can easily see the value as it is comparable to the high-end golf shirts sold in Canada.
Model size (me): 5’10” 195 lbs
Size worn: Large
Fabric: 88% and 12% Spandex
Retail cost: $115 CAD
The tag on my new Carnoustie Polo says it is manufactured with moisture management, freedom of movement, anti microbial technology, UV protection (30+) and ease of care. My experience is that all of these are a big plus for any golf shirt. Specifically for me, freedom of movement and anti microbial technology would sway my decision to purchase; the other qualities are just a bonus.
If you are looking for a quality golf shirt to fit all your needs, a Carnoustie Performance Polo should be on your list. Its comfort and stylish look is perfect for any active lifestyle. It is a shirt I will happily wear on and off the course.
