Phil Mickelson has won his 44th PGA Tournament and 51st professional event of his career over the past weekend at Pebble Beach. At 48 years young, he has plenty of game left and demonstrated he still has the ability to compete with the young lions. I am a Mickelson fan; I always have been and I am glad to see that he is still racking up the wins.
Shooting a final round of 65, Mickelson carded a three shot win. This is the 5th time Mickelson has won at Pebble Beach and if his play is any indication of how well he will perform in 2019, maybe his name should be bantered about for another Major win instead of Tiger Woods.
Here is another interesting stat I found about Mickelson:
Obviously, the above stat does not include the Champions Tour. I wonder if Mickelson will be the all-time leader in this first/last win category. He will have to wait until next year, but I think the will have his sights on winning again for sure.
Here is what you think the rest Mickelson’s season will be like:
Is it too early to talk about the Ryder Cup in 2020. I think it is, but I bet there will be plenty of armchair analysts floating his name as a possibility. At 50 years old, I think he will have to play his way onto the team and not rely on a Captain’s pick. Regardless, I am sure Mickelson is thinking about the possibilities.
Congratulations to Phil Mickelson on his win over the weekend. More of a streaky player in recent years, Mickelson proved again that you cannot count out the old guard.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
