Are You Ready To Hit The Links?

On any given day, our golf swing can be in top form or not. This bold statement (not really that bold actually, right?) is true for every player regardless of their skill level. One of the things I learned over the years of playing is that my warm up does directly contribute to my ball striking. No warm up, then it takes a few holes to get into the swing of things. šŸ˜‰ If I take the time to warm up properly, which takes about 20 minutes, then I notice a significant improvement in my game at the start of my round. Why don’t I warm up evey time, will that is a question that I cannot really answer; it is a quandary for sure. Regardless, how I warm up is as important as actually warming up. Let me explain.

One aspect of preparing for golf is how we warm up. Are we waking up our body and finding our best swing for that day or are we working on the mechanics right before the round. In my earlier days I would try and squeeze in swing training before a round and looking back, it never really worked out as I had intended. Somedays I would have a great round, but more often than not I would struggle on the course and fall back into a swing mechanics mode while playing. As we all know, that is never good for our round. So, I had to make a conscious effort to see what my swing was doing before my round vice working on the mechanics of my swing.

As Josh Kendall suggests warming up for a round and training for golf are two very different things. It is important to understand that on each day that our swing might be different and we need to embrace this because it will go a long way to shooting better golf scores. There is a point of being too technical when playing and my experience tells me that this approach usually fails in the long run. Golf is a game of feel (for the most part) and understanding or feeling our swing of the day will lower our golf scores more often than not.

If you are a player that gets caught up in warming up by working on your mechanics, try a different approach. Work on feeling your swing for the day. You might be surprised on how comfortable your ball striking becomes when we clear our head of mechanical thoughts.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
