Great Golf Advice From Rory McIlroy

Playing golf offers many opportunities to become a better golfer. Actually, each time we step on the first tee, the slate is clean as past games should not affect your current round. There are many different approaches to becoming a better golfer and Rory McIlroy offers three. Interestingly, everything he suggests is something we discussed in previous posts as ways to improve our golf game and lower our score.

During the first part of the video, McIlroy discusses playing within ourselves. Knowing all aspects of our game whether good or bad. Additionally, he focuses on playing to our strengths which is sound advice for every golfer regardless of their skill level.

Knowing our tendencies is very important. For example: Playing hickory sticks on Sunday past, I was pushing or slicing the ball on most shots. I knew that this unwanted ball flight would last most of the day so I started playing for this swing fault. As a result, my score improved over the 18 holes because I played within myself and accepted that fading or slicing was just going to happen. As a result, I was seven strokes better on the back nine versus the front. Knowing what we can do vice trying the hero low percentage shot is just smart golf! I figure if the 2025 Masters Champion plays this way, then it is very sound advice for my game.

McIlroy talks about the process of playing great golf. I fully support this approach to lowering our golf scores because it helps reign in our emotions and ego when needed. My process includes a pre-shot routine that I developed over years of practice, trial and error, and focused intent. When I use my pre-shot routine, I play better golf and as a result shoot lower golf scores.

Rory McIlroy, only one of six players to complete a career grand slam, offers some fantastic, easy to follow advice for all golfers. He understands that knowing our miss tendencies is as important as knowing how to hit a solid iron or driver. McIlroy trusts his processes under tremendous pressure and that is a lesson every golfer should learn and understand. Basically, if we follow what McIlroy suggests in the above video, we stand a strong chance of being better golfers.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
