Anytime I am a golf shot, I try to ensure that I use the same process with the intent of creating the same positive results. My methodology does not change much because I have honed my pre-shot routine over many years of trial and error. Interestingly, throughout my entire efforts, I gave very little attention to the shaft angle of my irons and driver thinking that it was not as important. Well, I recently watched a video that changes my point of view or at least helps me refine my current hitting methodology. More importantly, I realize that adjusting the shaft angle during setup causes challenges with my aim depending on which club I have in my hand.

Lowering our golf score is one goal that every golfer pursues. If someone tells you they never play golf to shoot a lower score, I would have to look at them with a bit so skepticism. However, there are a few players who play for the pure joy and do not keep score. I rarely meet them. Regardless, most players are always trying to shoot a personal best every time they tee it up. For those players looking to lower your score, I know an easy way that will fit everyone’s game to consistently lower your score.
Continue readingHitting The Golf Ball Hard Is A Myth!
To gain the most distance in golf, I need to hit the ball as hard as possible. I need to swing out of my shoes and let the big dog eat! There is not way around it, hitting the ball hard is the only way to gain any distance moving forward. Unfortunately, that is not the whole story. Hitting the ball as hard as we can to gain distance is a myth. The challenges of overswinging to hit the ball hard cause more problems with our game than anything else. One of the main issues I had with my swing in the early years is trying to hit the ball too hard thinking it was the best path to success. Well, after many years of failing, I decide to take another approach that set me on the track to success!

If you have never tried using hickory shafted golf clubs, I highly recommend that you do. The modern swing may not fit exactly to maximize vintage equipment as Jordan Spieth found out. Spieth decided to spend some time with his Dad on the links using equipment that needs a bit more finesse when trying to maximize distance and accuracy. The challenges faced by a top tier professional are exactly the same as any amateur because the materials used, although considered top notch 100 years ago, cannot hold up to the power generated by professional golfers today. Having said that, golfers like Spieth can quickly adjust their swing in order to squeeze every yard out of these vintage gems.
Continue readingHitting The Perfect Wedge Shot
If you regularly shoot over 90 our wedges are used more than any other club except the putter. The reason for this is that we miss the green more than we hit it on approach shots. Not to worry, this errand shot allows for more use of our scoring clubs….our wedges. The ability to hit the perfect wedge shot is a fundamental must for any player seeking lower golf scores. Of course there are many different theories about how to hit the perfect wedge for players to try, however I am a supporter of the fundamentals when hitting our wedges. Keeping that in mind, many players overlook ball position prior to contact because they think that moving the ball around in their stance helps make better wedge shots. This theory, in my opinion, is folly and should be revisited my most amateurs.
