My daughter recently sent me these pictures from Germany. She was in the airport and purchased some water. When she saw the advertisement, she immediately thought of me. I have to say, I am impressed by the LPGA’s public relations savvy to promote one of their Major Championships!
The Evian Championship, held in EVIAN-LES-BAINS, FRANCE on September 15-18, 2016, is the LPGA’s 5th and last Major of the year. Created in 2000, Evian is the major sponsor and has already started to promote this fantastic event early.
“Lydia Ko made history with her victory at the 2015 Evian Championship, carding the lowest final round by a major champion with a 63 on Sunday. In winning her first major championship, Ko became the youngest in the history of the LPGA to do so at 18 years, 4 months and 20 days, eclipsing Morgan Pressel who previously held the record with her victory at the 2007 ANA Inspiration at 18 years, 10 months and 9 days. Ko finished the week at 16-under par, six strokes ahead of Lexi Thompson who finished solo second.” (excerpt taken from LPGA website)
This is a great event and it will be interesting if Brooke Henderson can win her second Major of 2016! Here are some other points about the Evian Championship: Race to the CME Globe: 625 Points, Format: 72 holes, Purse: $3,250,000, Par: 71, and Yardage: 6,470. This event will be a great test for all the players and it will be fun to see if Lydia Ko can win back to back Evian Championships!
There is one thing for certain, Evian will be providing all the water for the players and spectators. By starting their public relations campaign early, Evian is demonstrating a subtle, yet effective way to promote their product and the LPGA Major. Pretty smart if you asked me!
