Prediction for KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

This weekend is the second major on the LPGA. Last year’s winner, Brooke Henderson, will be teeing it up at 0840 hrs. After winning just two weeks ago, Brooke is poised to repeat as champion.

“In 2016, Brooke Henderson began her week at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship with a hole-in-one that won her a new car. She ended it with an even bigger keepsake – her first major championship, won in a battle against another of the LPGA Tour’s youngest stars, Lydia Ko. Henderson’s clinched the second victory of her career on the first extra hole at Sahalee Country Club.”

I try to follow the LPGA as much as possible, but I can honestly say that I am not expert. However, I can read stats and follow some of the trends. It is easy to just pick the top golfers, but that has never been my way. Having said that, here are my top picks for this weekends LPGA Major.

Brooke Henderson – Brooke is the defending champion, she won two weeks ago, and her game is starting to regain its form from 2016. A quick start is important, however I do not expect her to lead this event from wire to wire. I do, however, expect to see her with the 54 hole lead and close out this event on Sunday.

Michelle Wie – Michelle is playing very well. I think her hot streak might push her over the top. In the last 3 events, Michelle finished T4, T3, and T2. If she keeps the ball in play and her putter continues to be hot, she will be very tough to beat.

Inbee Park – Inbee won this event 3 times in a row from 2012 – 2015. She has one on the LPGA already this year and is always a solid performer. She has not played as well lately, however she has the game to challenge anyone on Sunday.

Lexi Thompson – Lexi is also on a hot streak. In the last 6 tournaments, she won 1 and finished 2nd is 3 events. Unfortunately the other two events were not as productive. If the streaking Lexi Thompson shows up, watch out!

Lydia Ko – Lydia is under-rated as of late. She has not played her best golf, but lost in a playoff last year. She has the game to win any tournament and I never count her out! She was the best player in the world for a very long time and I think she will be back on top by the end of 2017

There you have my top 5 picks for this weekends LPGA Major. The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is a great event. As always, when making a prediction, it is important to actually pick someone, so, I select Brooke Henderson to repeat as champion and Michelle Wie will finish 2nd.

This is how I think things will unfold this weekend at the second LPGA Major. What do you think?

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
