Golf Season Is Just Around The Corner

With 36 days to go before opening day, my anticipation for playing golf continues to grow. Many of you in the warmer climes have dusted off your clubs and are hitting the links already. Of course I am jealous, but there is nothing I can do about it at this time. With snow banks over 6 feet high in some areas, indoor golf work will continue for the foreseeable future. One of the positive aspects of the having so much time on my hands is my ability to plan out how much golf I plan on playing this season. And believe me, it is going to be alot!

My first thoughts are how many rounds I want to play. This number is pretty standard for me because like in previous years, I forecast 80+ rounds in my future. This is totally doable because I am not working, I am healthier than last year and the course will be open for 7 solid months. It seems like a reasonable goal to me.

You have goals for the number of rounds as well; here is what you said:

I have other goals for playing this year and I thought I would share them to see if I am missing something:

  • play in 5 tournaments
  • play on 10 different courses
  • play at least 10 rounds with my wife
  • play at least 10 rounds with a stranger

These are pretty basic goals, but if you stack them up over the season, I will be pretty busy playing golf.

I plan on walking most rounds this year. Given my current rate of recovery, I should be able to build up enough strength to do so. I will not push it, but I am hoping by the end of the season I will be a walking machine. We shall see; however, my primary goal is to play lots of golf.

I am visualizing my 2019 golf season to be the best ever. I believe that a strong mental attitude will pay dividends on the course. I have started to play rounds of golf in my mind, now all I need is for spring to arrive so I can put all this positive energy to good use.

  1. Jim, love your goals. How’s your strength level? Think you’ll be close to 100% by mid-April?

    I have three:
    1) heal this elbow
    2) get into attack mode with my short game
    3) peak my game for my late July golf trip to Boyne City

    Currently working on the first two. The third will obviously have to wait.

      Thanks. I am feeling stronger everyday. 100% is something I am striving for, but I think I will have to modify what that means. Right now it is all about getting better. I finished my chipping mat a few weeks ago. It works awesome. I plan to write about it in a few days.

  2. I like your goals. Mine are more general – decrease handicap, play a more diverse set of local courses (don’t repeat so much), hit a bucketlist course, and volunteer for First Tee and at least once.
