Understanding the basics of golf is more challenging that we think….or is it? Jack Nicklaus, arguably the greatest golfer of all time, has a series of videos that discuss many aspects of how to play golf. His first video, which will be highlighted here today, is probably the most important of all because it sets the foundation for our natural golf swing. If you are a beginner, or even an experience player like myself, it is important to heed what Jack says because we can move to more advance aspects of the game with the proper fundamentals. And that leads to every golfers goal: lower golf scores.
I am not sure I could describe what Jack says in this short video any better or simpler. I do want to highlight his focus on the grip. I learned Jack’s way a long time ago and have played with a neutral grip set up for years. I have experimented with a strong and weak grip, but found these grip changes a poor fit for my swing. So, the neutral grip it is for me.
I cannot overstate the importance of learning the three things Jack talked about: grip, posture and stance. It is from these positions that all other aspects of our swing flow. To be a better golfer and to lower you handicap, master what Jack says. A strong foundation is the key to successful golf regardless of your the scores you shoot.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
Jim, totally agree with Jack’s approach and of the importance of the grip. It’s the only part of you attached to the equipment and you pay close attention to it. It’s like buying tires. Don’t skimp on quality. They are the only part connecting the car to the road.
Thanks,
Brian
