After all the talk, discussion, and lamenting about Olympic Golf, I am happy to say that the women have taken to the course in search of a gold medal! Many of the world’s top female players are in Rio and did not waver in their decision to represent their country. Regardless of where you stand, I am happy to see Canadians taking to the links as they vie for a gold medal.
The men’s competition appears to have been a huge success and I am happy for Justin Rose who worked his way to the top of the podium. An interesting fact about Rose’s win is that he had an eagle on a par 3, par 4, and par 5! I will let you figure out his score.
I suggest that the women’s competition will be just as exciting. After the first round there are many players within striking distance. World number 2, Ariya Jutanugarn from Thailand, set the pace with a 6 under 65. With 4 victories in 2016 on the LPGA Tour, she is a tough competitor and will be tough to beat. However, it is way to early to hand Jutanugran the gold medal.
Weather might play a role as there is forecast for some rain on Friday and Saturday. This might have an impact on play, but it is too soon to tell.
With no cut at the Olympics, I suggest that anyone within 5 strokes has a chance to win. Being Canadian, I am rooting for Brooke Henderson, currently in 19th place, and Alena Sharp, currently in 37th.
Olympic golf is back and it is the women’s turn. I plan to watch some of their great play and hopefully I will see the Canadian flag rising on Saturday!
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
Well Jim, Brooke is right there after two rounds.

Jim,
Pumped for the women’s golf! Brooke is in good position right now but needs a solid round today to get a little closer to the lead. Go Canada!
