Over many posts, I add a line of “create the day you want!” I believe that we have control of our daily actions and as such are able to dictate the path we choose on any given day. This mindfulness thought process is at the core of my daily life. All my actions or in-actions create the day I intend. It is not a difficult concept, but on that has a profound impact on my overall well-being. Well, my golf game is the result of the same mental thinking!
Playing golf follows the exact process as mentioned above. Creating the golf game you want starts in a small area. The 6 inches of real estate between your ears. Creating anything starts with a thought, then belief it will happen, and action to make reach that thought. Yes, sometimes it takes a bit of effort, but everything worthwhile does…..or so they say. Regardless of what you are trying to achieve, it all starts with mentally aligning your thoughts and actions on the same path.
The Law of Attraction talks about manifesting an outcome through thoughts. Of course this is a simplification of the whole concept, however it does sum it quickly. I believe that to make a thought happen, we have to take action to achieve it. In activity is not a recipe for success. This is doubly true for our golf game. We have to take positive steps with focused intent to improve lower our golf scores.
This is why you hear me talking about creating a plan. Staying focused on improving a specific skill or visualizing an outcome. All of these are started with a thought, then belief, then action to achieve. It is not anymore difficult than that…..well maybe a bit more difficult. The point is that to improve your golf game, it all starts with a thought.
Jack Nicklaus’ point is that to play better golf, we have to understand our goals and consistently work towards them without fail. This idea has helped me achieve a low single digit. There were many bumps along the way and life happens; regardless, the point is the think of what you what to achieve, belief you can achieve it (stay focused) and take steps to make it happen. It does take all three parts in the process for your game to improve and there are no short cuts.
Creating the golf game we want starts with a thought. A tangible thought that will inspire us to take action to succeed. I use this process all the time and it works very well for me and it might for you as well. Give it a go, you might be surprised at the outcome.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
