If you ask every golfer, everyone one will tell you that they have something to fix or work on with respect to their golf game. Yup, I am confident is call this statement to 99.99% true. Personally, I have several areas that continually need fixing and I sometimes get in the trap of waiting for the “right time” to work on my game. Well, that time never happens and sometimes I end up doing nothing. Does that sound familiar?

Realistically, the right time to work on my golf game is now. The hardest aspect of this scenario is to make the decision to move forward. Once I have put my mind into doing this, then the rest becomes a process of following through by setting tangible, realistic, sustainable goals.
Believe me I have a plethora of excuses that are based in nothing but procrastination. Yup, I can admit when the only thing holding me back from working on my game is me. So, that all ends today!
Normally, I wait until after the Christmas holidays to set up my practice area in my garage (more pictures and info on this in the future) because I have convinced myself that it was best not burn out from over practicing. Additionally, I allow myself to be fooled by thinking that the time off will help my game because I will be physically rested to hit lots of balls into my DIY driving net. I could go on but, I think you see that my logic is folly.
So, I have decided to work on setting up my driving net. I have a few modifications in mind to improve my practice area that I will outline later. Some of it will be trial and error and others just smart construction ideas. Regardless, now is the right time to get off the couch and start swinging my clubs.
I realize that it does not have to be all or nothing. If I can hit a few balls daily or every second day, I can build a sustainable plan that will have far reaching benefits. Who knows, maybe my early start to practicing will lead to a swing analyzer ….. but I do not want to get ahead of myself. Right now, it is important to set up my practice area and to get swinging.
So, if you are wondering when is the right time to start working on your golf game, I think you have already answered your own question. Only you will know when is the right time and generally that is at the moment you are thinking about fixing something in your golf game. It does not have to be a major change, just a small first step to lower golf scores.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
Jim, I don’t know the best time to work on your game but I do know that the more frequently you do it, the better you’ll become. Right now, I’m on a mental break. Had to shut it down for November even though it’s very playable, and give the brain cells a rest. Hoping for some decent days in December.
Looking forward to hearing of the DIY project improvements you are making.
Thanks,
Brian

Brian,
We all need a mental break from time to time. I say, get rested and come a swinging in December.

Lights go out at the range at 9pm. It’s maybe 10-12 minutes away. I’ve told myself I’m going but with free golf surrounding me, I never seem to make it lately. I need to change that. And adding more workout time isn’t a bad idea either even if I can’t safely make use of our facilities here yet, that’s no excuse not to do more right here.

Kevin,
Sounds like you have all the tools you need to improve your golf game. Of course being safe is paramount; and your area is more challenging than most. Keep safe and do what you can.
Cheers Jim
